Phantasmagoria Special

Let us take a walk among the blue gum trees and immerse ourselves into the atmospheres of the sound art festival PHANTASMAGORIA in (for most of us) far away Australia. We’ll listen to Jaqui Shelton’s „Letters to the landscape“ and the stunning music of frequncies by the Overtone Ensemble. We’ll sneak up to a mysterious shed in the dark by the Kiewa river and follow the path around Lake Guy accompanied by the ringing of innumerable of brass bells.

Featuring interviews with: Madelynne Cornish, Ben Byrne, Jaqui Shelton, Jeff Robinson and the Overtone Ensemble.

This the Phantasmagoria Special part 1. In part 2 (in December) I will present my own work for the festival, a children’s radio play and immersive sound collage for 3 radio transmitters called „Electric Fairy Grounds“…. and still more Bogong sounds :)

PHANTASMAGORIA (7-30 April 2017), curated by Madelynne Cornish and Phillip Sarmartzis, was a site responsive sound art festival located in Bogong Village, Australia. PHANTASMAGORIA re-imagines and transforms Bogong Village into a world of shadows, murmurs and dreams. The festival used contemporary art practices to create illusion and spectacle in order to trace the vanishing individuals and communities that have marked the Alpine region. It drew on local knowledge, historical documentation, artefacts, and folklore to help construct a social context and landscape ecology for artworks.
